Physical activity can be a cure. Physical activity enhances our sleep and helps reduce stress and anxiety, encourages better memory. Activities that increase your heart rate – such as working in the garden, cleaning your apartment or cycling to work are also good. Walking has also been shown to improve mood. In a 2015 study, scientists compared the brain activities of healthy people after an hour and a half of walking – in the city or in nature. Those who took a walk in nature showed less activity in the part of the brain that is especially active when we are anxious or focused on negative emotions. Sleepiness affects mood and concentration, but also emotional intelligence. A sense of belonging and social connection are as important to our health as nutrition, exercise and sleep.
