Tennis is a sport more popular in its singles version. The doubles events happen alongside the singles events in all major tournaments. In the good olden days, some of the great players used to play both singles and doubles formats. The present day players are more careful about not exerting themselves too much. So the singles players avoid playing doubles so as to have undiluted focus on their main event. So the doubles events usually feature lesser known stars as compared to singles. Even without the big stars, the doubles matches look very attractive because of the pace and team work. It is all about how two players in a team would complement each other.
