One of the things that often happens as we approach the new year is the reset. By reset, I mean many of us to consider new options. Yesterday I talked about using your smartphone to find your car in a large parking lot. Most people do not often have to go to large parking lots. But I was reminded of the reality of having to go to the hospital to see someone. You aren’t always sinning the state of mind to remember where your car is. That got me thinking about all of the other things that we can automate. I realized I hadn’t talked about finding lost things, just my experience finding my car in the dark. There is a manual way to find your car; you walk around pressing the remote until the horn sounds in your car. But that takes a lot more walking!
There is a product called Tile. Tile allows you to put a tile on an object you may lose. An example is a suitcase or a keyring. You attach the tile (more securely to a suitcase) and then at the airport when you want to know where your bag is, you open the tile app on your phone. In a hurry and need to find keys or something that has a tile on it, you open the tile app. One of the things that always made me laugh about this type of technology was the question, “what if you lose your phone?” I don’t know why I know that I ways think about that. When I traveled, I always made sure to keep my keys, phone and other critical things (airplane ticket) in the same place.
But with tile, you find the nearest tile and even if your phone is in silent mode, the tile will ring your phone so you can find it. Now, if the phone is off, you won’t be able to find it with tile. But if you lose the same thing often, Tile is a great tool to have. There are competitors as well to the Tile product and all of them do the same thing. Attach a Tile (or other) to the item you don’t want to lose. Then if you lose it, you go to the Application and either see the tile on a map or the tile can beep. The other thing is that the Tile can be displayed on a map. If your suitcase goes missing, you can see where it is on the map! The same is true of your car, and you can put a tile in your car as well!
Resetting the year 2020 is the year we don’t lose things!

Can one attach a tile to eyeglasses? And yes, I don’t think you answered your own question on what happens if your phone gets lost ?
phone lost, press a tile and it makes your phone ring! I did miss that!
yes, they make a tile for glasses!
Another useful invention!
it really is a very useful tool!
Tile sounds like a great ap, I once took 2 hours to find my car in Middlemore hospital. I now have a car that has an alarm I can set off with my keys but even then it would take a while.
Middlemore hospital in Auckland is otherwise known as “Muddlemore”, I recall visiting a patient there that told me she had a blood transfusion and they gave her the wrong blood. She was Ok but one needs to be sure.
Hospitals are a great example of why this technology is expanding. You normally aren’t in your right place when you have to go to the hospital!
No plans …. watching TV and waiting for the new year ….Happy New Year dear Doc to you and your loved ones
A belated happy new year to you as well pal!
It’s never too late, dear friend
that is very true, until I wait until December 31, 2020! that might be too late for 2020 new years greetings 🙂
I always put the key fob in my purse as I am leaving.
No plans, just try to be happy every day.
i have similar rituals they help. But my wife loses hers very often. Tile has been a time saver for her!
That is great she has a helper. Those little things make life much easier.
yup
I also put a spare key for her car in the kitchen. So when the panic calls come I just say there is spare.
This device is very interesting. It would be very right for me.
i think the are pretty inexpensive overall. I have been using them for about 3 years. So the market may have changed.
