Direct comparison of Venison and Beef

I’ve written several articles in regard to how beef is far healthier for people than what quite a few people have been saying for some time and how this is now being acknowledged by medical doctors. As healthy as beef is, deer meat, venison, is even healthier. So how do the two compare? You might be surprised.

For one thing, venison has 40% fewer calories than beef. A 3½ ounce portion of Venison is only 157 calories. This is even 10% less than in chicken breasts. Wild venison is also over  50% lower in fat; 7 g, compared to 16 g for beef.

Venison contains 20% more protein than beef and is higher in thiamin, niacin, riboflavin and vitamin B6. A serving of venison supplies 20% of the daily requirement of iron, and it is heme iron, which is the most easily absorbable and usable kind of iron. Heme iron isn’t available in plants. Beef does contain more heme iron, magnesium, phosphorus, and zinc than venison, but venison is higher in all of these than pork, turkey, or chicken.

Wild venison is 100% organic, a claim that even pasture beef can’t claim.

The bottom line is that although beef is a healthy addition to a diet, venison is even healthier. Personally, I also feel that it tastes better, but that is an opinion.

    • Yes
    • No
    • I don’t care for venison
