No, the title does not make it seem that I have gone over the edge. Of course, there cannot be devils in any garden however what I am referring to is a new species of orchid that is referred to as the demon orchid.
Now orchids are lovely flowers so when I heard of a species that looked like the devil I just had to write about it. The new species is known as Telipogon diabolicus and supposedly the orchid’s reproductive structure or gynostemium looks like the head of a devil. The flower itself has clawed petals which add to its demonic appearance.
This makes me think of the Disney cartoon “101 Dalmations” in which the villainess Cruella DeVille always reminded me of the devil.

What’s in a name? A rose by any name would smell as sweet. (lol)
I can see where that come from though.
people will see what they wish to see. The face in the orchid does look truly scary.
it’s amazing what nature can come up with, Doc
it really is – sometimes more than we humans can understand.
I thought it looked like the heart and the valves, i don’t think the name is fair to this beautiful orchid.
it is a stretch, but I can see where they got it from
We have an orchid that bears flowers only once a year.
Yes, this beautiful orchid needs a name change. 🙂
The lovely orchid got a bad deal here, Carol.
