Decorated Pumpkins on a Front Porch, Chicago (2017-10-30 14-19-44_01) (Theme For The Month Challenge – Halloween Colors)

30 Oct 2017

Chicago, Illinois (Edgewater neighborhood)

Nikon Coolpix P7700

The decoration was located in front of the house at 1449 West Granville Avenue, Chicago, Illinois (Edgewater).

Editing was done using ACDSee Ultimate 2020. I straightened the image and then adjusted the lighting and increased the contrast, clarity and vibrance. Then I made slight increase to the saturation and brightness in the greens and oranges, adjusted the levels and added a vignette.

    • I used to when my kids were young but I haven’t for quite some time. I was amazed at the detail on these. I was also surprised that the squirrels hadn’t gotten to them yet.

    • It’s not a religious holiday over here either. The name comes from All Hallows Eve, the night before All Saints Day. That’s a Roman Catholic holy day. (Do the Orthodox celebrate that also?)

    • It’s a minor holiday. People dress up in costumes and go to parties. It used to be that kids would wear costumes and go door to door. The people would give them candy. Unfortunately the number of sickos has made it too dangerous to do that. A lot of people decorate their houses with spooky decorations. It’s just a fun thing.
