It is said that our mind wanders 30% of the time. Is this normal? Great question even if you didn’t ask. It is perfectly normal for the mind to wander off and yet children in school are chided for zoning out.
Most of the time we are not even aware that our mind has wandered off miles away from where we really where. A single word, a smell or a background noise is enough for your mind to take off to different time and place.
Is this an unhealthy practice that needs to be curbed? It depends, we cannot afford to zone out in the most important meetings or financial discussions. But it is okay to take a break when you do routine tasks that are repetitive and boring.
If Lewis Carroll hadn’t let his mind wander the world would have lost books like Alice in wonderland. Creative people let their minds wander more than others , however, they take cues from their wanderings and create masterpiece out of them.
Sometimes your mind wandering could take you to negative places. You need to put an end to these tormenting thoughts right away. It just doesn’t help to engage in negative thoughts , worries and sadness.
It is all about finding the right balance balance. Your brain needs time to focus and time to zone out, we need to be able to control when we do what.
