Crazy colors ~ Tagetes protect our garden

This is my contribution to the challenge of crazy color. Before we poison our garden with pesticides, let’s try natural laws. Among the plants that are virtually must have in the garden, garden marigold, Tagetes, garlic and onion. A clever gardener plants Tagetes all over the garden, even among vegetables.  It has a very distinctive and special smell. Chasing soil nematodes, and thus beneficial to the ground. If they are rife with pests in the garden, you can drive away with a carpet of these flowers. Tagetes protect plants against liceand Colorado potato beetle. But snails love this plant, so we are sown on the edges of flower beds or in a more remote corner of the garden where they will keep the snails from looking for food during the vegetables.  Even vole not like the smell of this plant. This animal has a very sensitive nose and does not tolerate the smell of the tagetes.

  3. I need to have some in my garden. The only problem is they are an annual here. How easy are the seeds to collect? Do you know? Great shot btw. Love that orange. Wow!

    • I pick the seeds myself. When the flowers dry, the seeds themselves fall from the flowers. If the flowers do not dry in the garden, I tear them down and dry them on the terrace.

      • Thank you so much for the answer. Okay then that sounds easy enough. I do have a big snail problem as well. Would you suggest planting them, then just dealing with the snails?

        • I also have big problems with snails. I’ve tried countless things, but it doesn’t work. Now I’m going to try these flowers. I don’t know if it works or not?
