Color Therapy and Adult Coloring Pages

Coloring has a therapeutic potential to reduce anxiety, create focus and bring about more mindfulness. Research has shown that coloring had an effect by dropping stress and anxiety levels when subjects colored mandalas, or round frames with geometric patterns inside.

Just like meditation, coloring also allows us to switch off our brains from other thoughts and focus only on the moment, helping to alleviate free-floating anxiety.

Coloring can be effective for people who aren’t comfortable with more creatively expressive forms of art, and for those artists that just want to take a break..

Here are some of mine I colored that are on 5 x 7 postcards, along with the questions.

  1. Very nice coloring… Loved them! I enjoy coloring too…but haven’t done it in a while. I should get back into it! I just got a new thing that is supposed to be therapeutic like coloring… Diamond stitch painting. I’ll have to share the process!

  2. Wow!! That is fantastic!! But often when I color I find my mind drifting, that is where a lot of my writing comes from….

  3. I have never been good at coloring, but these actually look awesome and I feel like trying them. I believe that everything can be used as therapy, it depends on the person.

    • You should try it Albert. Its not the same as doing your own artwork. I can’t explain it really. For me, you know I paint wildlife in oils, but this is fun in a different way. I think I am part child. giggles.

      • A few years ago I bought quite a lot of children coloring books for some of my nephews who live in our house. After they were able to get up and have their own shelter, I did not have such books more. Hehe…

  5. Very good coloring creativity in these drawings. Congratulations. I used to color when I was a child but I have long abandoned it for crochet, knitting, cross-stitch and tatting. Nonetheless, I know it is very relaxing and comforting to color as evidenced by my mother-in-law who colored a whole book that I gave her. She also said that it helped with her arthritic fingers by keeping them moving about before stiffening up.

    • Thank you HG. I paint in oils and draw, but still love these new coloring books. I don’t need much help in relaxation, but they are a lot of fun. I bet it is good for keeping fingers nimble.
