This is not a potato tree, its an ornamental bush from the same family. The flowers look more like giant Eggplant flowers. However, the flowers turn color from purple, to lavender, to white. you can usually find all the three colors on the bush, The leaves are huge and are thorny.
The botanical name is Solanum macranthum Dunal . The bush grows to about 15 feet in height. It blooms all year round and is impressive. My friend had this in her yard for years before it became diseased and died.
It is usually propagated from seeds, stem cuttings or aerial grafts.
