Christmas Cactus in Bloom

The Christmas Cactus which is  Zygocactusor  Schlumbergera is so called because it supposedly blooms around Christmas. It is also known to bloom around Easter time. I have had this one in early summer and it is blooming now. It is so interesting watching the tiny buds appear at the tips of the leaves and each day they grow until they burst into these beautiful flowers. While I am enjoying my cactus daily now, I wish it would bloom again for Christmas. The Christmas Cactus blooms for about two weeks at a time depending on conditions.

  1. It looks very lovely. I had a Christmas cactus plant which my late husband gave me back in Latvia. About a week after he died in August 2017 the cactus began blooming and I knew he was saying hello. Now I have bought myself another Christmas cactus but it is not blooming yet.

  2. I love them! I have two and they usually bloom in October, but they haven’t bloomed this year yet. I got a new one recently and it’s blooming right now.
