Would You Choose to Spend a Holiday Alone?

If contagious with the flu it’s obvious that as a courtesy to others we should spend a holiday alone, but most people spend holidays with others, either family or friends, and due to unexpected circumstances, sometimes they are spent with strangers. Choosing to spend a holiday alone is not what most people do, but have you ever considered the possibilities?

If a person chooses to take a break from holiday hubbub they can choose from many alternatives. Spending isolated restful time is something many actually need and benefit from at times. Quiet contemplation of the meaning of the holiday, recuperating rest, and setting oneself aside just to reassess life goals are important. As well, a person can choose to step outside their normal holiday experience and do something different. Sacrificing the time to a worthy cause such as serving meals to homeless families or choosing to take the time to get to know people who are just acquaintances are examples of doing something alone in crowd.

  1. Holidays can be hard for any people for different reasons. I try to enjoy them with my family and friends even though some family members have died. I think to myself, to enjoy the ones that are left for me to treasure, and have a great holiday.

    • That is an excellent perspective. Not everyone can be with loved ones though. It’s good to be able to consider several options. Thanks much for adding your feedback here.

    • We also have your experience. Holiday seasons certainly can be tough. That is one reason I wrote the article linked in the opening to the poll. Focusing on the heart of the upcoming season is huge, whether we meet with others or have a quiet time at home.
