Chinese TV Series : The Disguiser (2015)

This is a quickie review/recommendation of a 2015 Chinese TV series titled “The Disguiser”.  (“Quickie” as opposed to “detailed”?  I prefer to do quickie reviews because I’m always afraid of saying too much and giving it all away, which ruins the entertainment experience for those who have not seen the movie or the TV show.)

If you would like a few more details, Cdramadevotee published a comprehensive and detailed review of this series.  They gave it a 9 out of 10.  I totally disagree. It’s worth all 10 points.

Per the blog publisher’s review: “It is almost too good to be true.”

Per moi:  Well! Maybe it is almost too good to be true. But I’d give the series 5 stars for authentic intensity and a plot that keeps you all wrapped up in it! Plus two extra stars just for the background music. This show has an amazing soundtrack!

If you ask me, should you watch this series, my answer is:  Yes!  5 out of 5 stars.  Definitely binge-worthy!!

At one time this series was available on Netflix but no longer.  However, you can stream it free if you go to Viki.com.  It has English subtitles and you’ll have to watch the ads.

The two quotes below are from Wiki and Viki (Wiki, short for Wikipedia).  The statements provide a very accurate description of what this series is about.

“The Disguiser is a 2015 Chinese spy war television drama based on Zhang Yong’s novel, Spy War on Shanghai Bond (?????).”

“Set during the Japanese occupation of China, a young man is kidnapped by a powerful organization and trained to become a spy. … Partnered with Yu Man Li (Song Yi), Tai is given the code name “Scorpion” and sent to become an underground spy for the Communists.”

Don’t these words grab your attention?  The entire cast of actors and actresses are top-notch.  Their performances are stellar.  Oh!  And did I say the soundtrack was awesome?  No, I did not.  I said it was amazing.  That was an understatement.  The soundtrack is amazing and awesome!  The music suited the mood of each TV episode perfectly!
