Chinese new year

Chinese have a big influence on us so even if majority of the population here is not Chinese, the observance of the Chinese new year in our country is nationwide. In the recent years, the government had been declaring the Chinese new year a holiday to give the people the chance to celebrate.

The symbol of the Chinese new year is the dragon dance. It is a group of dancers that are inside the costume of a dragon with a long body. It dances to the drum beat. The finale of the dance is to eat the red envelope that has money in it. That means when the dragon dances in front of your store (or office) you have to give money in the red envelope. The Chinese believe that giving money to the dragon will bring good luck.
