Chef Boyardee Made Good Business

Ever since I was a little girl once I discovered canned spaghetti I was hooked. I enjoyed all of the Chef Boyardee products that you could just heat and eat especially the spaghetti and meatballs and ravioli. Now I know there are people who will say that homemade spaghetti is the best but occasionally I found no fault with the products offered by one of my favorite chefs.

There was no real Chef Boyardee but there was an Italian American immigrant named Ettore Boiardi who actually worked as a cook in a restaurant at the age of 10 back in Italy immigrating to the New World at 16. He started working in different restaurants in New York City and won the prestigious title of chef. When he and his wife moved to Cleveland, Ohio Boiardi opened a restaurant calling it “Il Giardino d’Italia” meaning “The Garden of Italy”.

When he often heard his customers saying that they wished they could take the food home he began to think. Soon he was pouring his sauces into milk bottles and packaging up his special cheese and spice blends along with dried pasta. He sold these to his customers and soon he made more money from these products than he did from his restaurant.

So Boiardi did what any businessman would do he opened a factory to produce the special products his customers were demanding and came up with his famous brand name “Chef Boyardee” and the rest is pasta history. I just loved all the products and whenever new ones came out on the store shelves I just had to try them.
