Charming Cherry Blossoms

Those white and pink lovely cherry blossoms that burst forth in spring are among the most beautiful flowers around. When the blossoms begin to fall it becomes like a snowy fantasy under the sun. The U.S. capital Washington D.C. hosts the National Cherry Blossom Festival each year when over 3000 cherry trees are in full bloom. On March 27 during the festival, they commemorate the former Mayor Yukio Ozaki of Tokyo, Japan who gave the Japanese cherry trees to the U.S. as a token of their friendship.

In Japan, cherry blossoms are called sakura and in Japanese culture, the time of the cherry blossoms blooming represents a new beginning and the beauty of life. It is at this time that the Japanese spend evenings under the lovely blooming trees with friends and family.

In the photo is a lovely Japanese cherry tree blossoming in Riga, Latvia which I took a photo of during my last spring there.
