Centenarian

What would you give someone one on the day she becomes a centenarian?  The invitation clearly says no gifts. She has a house full of things.  Still I really want her to feel like this is  a celebration. I wrote a card that said “Grandma June, thanks for thousands of great memories and lessons learned. For your special birthday I am going to share 100 of my favorite. (And I easily came up with 100.)

We have decided to also send 100 carnations. She does love flowers and they can be tossed when they have lot their luster. We have not ordered them yet. We are waiting for your input!

Here’s a little introduction of the card

Grandma June,

You made it! You have managed to stay on this earth for 100 years and you are still as sharp as a tack. When your granddaughters asked me what my favorite memory of you I replied “I have thousands.”  In honor of this day I am going to share 100 of my favorite!

Branding and Bacon

Branding back in the day was when all the neighbors gathered and got the job done. The whole crew would just go from ranch to ranch. When Grandpa said that it smelled like the bacon was burning it stirred you up. You came marching outside and tossed the whole thing at him. It was great entertainment and he was fast to react. No harm, no foul.

I remember you telling us that you really didn’t believe in spanking your children. Hog tying them for a few minutes until they settled down was much more efficient.

  1. You could make a donation to her favorite charity in her name, or adopt a wild animal that she likes (some organizations let you “adopt” an animal to support their existence)…Or have a star named after her (you will get a certificate with the location of the star).
