Breathing Along With the Ocean

You will be amazed to discover that oceans are responsible for supplying us with 70% of the oxygen supply due to marine plants. Marine plants release a byproduct known as photosynthesis. Thereby on phytoplankton (Prochlorococcus) is estimated to supply one in every five breaths a human takes.

It is bad that the oceans are getting so polluted because this can take away from them the oxygen that is needed to support life. When waste disposal winds up in the ocean, it has the ability to feed an overabundance of algae which then die and sink.

As a result, the algae decomposes and then consumes all the available oxygen in the water thereby creating hypoxic areas or hot spots that lack oxygen. When this happens if the fish and other marine life cannot find a new space to live in they become toast.
