Bougainvillea

I’ve came across this beautiful flower when I walked passed a community garden … I asked my mum if she knows the plant and she gave me a Chinese name “九重葛属”… A quick search online shows 九重葛属 translate to Bougainvillea …

Bougainvillea is actually quite a common plant that people grows because our climate/weather is really suitable for its growth!

  • Do you have a Bougainvillea in your garden?

    • Yes

    • 九重葛 is read as Jiu chong ge … the last word is (属)”shu” which actually is not included as the name of the plant, it actually means “belonging” or “in the same family”…along this line.

and the 2nd word, “重” is also the same word use for heavy. when its use for heavy, it’s read as “zhong”. Chinese have same character that have 2 (or even 3) pronunciations and meanings.

    • Hehe, finally!
And I still thought it’s hard to find a common plant since our climates are quite different!
      But we never know :p
