Blue Morpho Butterfly

I love butterflies and watching them among flowers in the summertime. I think that the most colorful one I have seen was with orange and black. The blue morpho is among the largest butterflies in the world and lives in the tropical forests of South and Central America.

They have blue wings with black edges.  The underpart of their wings is brown and has eyespots. The black color on their wings helps to camouflage them from such predators like birds, frogs, and lizards. When it comes to the mating season you can see the blue morpho butterflies in all parts of the forest. When other animals threaten them they release a strong smell from their glands. The blue morphos feed on the leaves of various plants, fungi, and rotting fruit.
