The color of a hydrangea bloom depends on the chemical makeup of the soil it is planted in. If the soil is high in aluminum and has a low pH, the hydrangea flower will be blue. If the soil has either a high pH or is low on aluminum, the hydrangea flower color will be pink. In order to make a hydrangea change color, you have to change the chemical composition of the soil it grows in.
My blooms started out purple for the first few years. Now they are changing over to blue. Amazing what nature offers all of us. You can still see a tinge of purple in some of the blooms. I prefer the blue. We all see what my spring garden yields this year.

This is a Great think.
So beautiful! We had roses that change colors every time they bloom, it was a wonderful bush.
Wow I have never seen that before.
It wasn’t a crazy change, but different shades of orange, pink and reddish.
Sounds very exciting to experience. 🙂
Your story about managing the color of hydrangeas has made me imagine to adjust the color of the flower on the TV with the remote control. lol
Ha it is not that easy and the end solution is not always the same. That is funny.
Yes, I knew it, Ma’am. That’s just in my imagination, and we both know that to take care of a plant is not that easy. But I’m lucky that you were always willing to understand my joke…
I know how you are. Wouldn’t it be great if it did work that easy. What splendid gardens we would all have.
Wonderful colour and flowers.
Thanks, it is my favorite color.
Lovely colour and flower, we also get hydrangeas here in NZ. The garden shops sells different types of flower on this type but I will take your word for it, Im no expert.
Our soil where I live in a rich volcanic loam. Most plants like this type of soil
Thank you very much for your comment. Glad we have something else in common.
Wonderful color change! This is the beauty of nature indeed.
Yes indeed, nature at its best.
We had this flower too and attempted to change its color but it didn’t came out as blue as yours. ? It’s so bright! ??
Thanks, this was last year, I hope it will be the same this year.
Wonderful color … so I see the color of the flowers rarely
Thank you very m much my friend.
Nice flower, I saw the purple. What’s the name of this flower?
It is in the first line of my post… Hydrangea is the name.
Thank you.
This is so interesting. We had a huge one at home when I was little. It had both blue and purple flowers.
I am always learning about nature. This one has a little purple as well as the blue.
Very interesting … I did not know this until today. Otherwise, I do not have gardening in my garden … wonderful flower
Nature has so much to offer, right! Thanks.
The blue flower on this image is beauty to my eyes.
I am so glad you like it my friend.
Colors like words have great power.
You are exactly right my friend.
Being a fan of the PBS Kids superheroine Wordgirl does have its privileges.
I have had white and pink but not the blue ones
I love the blue and purple. They are al pretty against the dark green foliage.
Beautiful kaleidoscope flower being able to change color like that. That blue is very royal. I have never gardened so I do not know anything about flowers or plants bu this flower is positively glowing and radiant.
Thank you for your words, I have to agree and blue is my favorite color of all. Nature is so amazing.
That’s so amazing how they can change different colors like that.
Yes it is Hillary, the blue is my favorite.
I would like to do that this year if I do a garden.
