I find it interesting that both shooters were wearing ear muffs. With so many electronics I don’t know if I would have assumed it was some kind of electronics. On such a hot day, the first one in Walmart I might have found strange.
Young children often have a better sense about people. In a public place when one of my grandchildren takes my hand it triggers me to look around. They felt, heard or saw something that caused them to seek a connection. I am certain others have experienced this. It doesn’t always mean a bad thing is going to happen and still it means that something is changing or they are in some kind of need. (Even if it is to show you the toy they want now.) Never ignore it, always explore it.
These are going to suddenly stop. We don’t know where or when the next one will occur. All we can do is pay attention and try to protect those around us.

Now because of my customer, I watch people for their intent.

Did they say earmuffs for sure or were they ear protection guards? I always pay attention to people around me, especially these days.
You are correct, we must always pay attention, no matter where we are. The ear muffs were a different idea if I am not mistaken.
I like to observe things and people around me. My grandkids usually give me their hand if they see something that they don’t like.
