For those of us who live in cities where space is premium, gardens can extend from balconies ledges to window boxes. This is a shot of my first floor balcony ledge from the road. This picture was taken a few months back when my caladiums were almost done growing.
My balcony ledge is often filled with succulents. Here is a shallow pot with donkey’s tail succulent that trails down gracefully. A string of hearts (another trailing succulent) which doesn’t like the hot evening sun is learning to adjust itself to its space.
For textures and interests I had added some echeverias to the pot , they add their flowery shapes to the succulent arrangement. The donkeys tail had lovely tiny blooms in wine red. I somehow missed taking a picture of the plant in bloom.
Many people complain that they have no space to grow plants but with a little effort you could grow anything to suit the space and the macro climate of your home. Experimenting with plants is the way to learn. Even a small ledge would do.

I live in the countryside, but I still have flowers on all windows in the summer, dear Dawn
Your window boxes must be beautiful.
I have gone through this while I was living in the city
It is amazing how many people come to see your garden when you have a decent one in the city
