Aztec Flaming Serpent

Xiuhcoatl is a flaming serpent in Aztec mythology. It is associated with turquoise, drought and fire god Xiuhtecuhtli. It is said that this flaming serpent was used by the god Huitzilopochtli to behead his sister Covolxauhqui, for light to triumph over darkness. The serpent became a national and political symbol for the Aztecs. Ancient incense burners have been found that were carved in the serpent’s image.
