Asters are essential annuals for any garden. Not only do they give a pop of color to any garden but they are magnets for bees and butterflies. Asters are easy to grow and virtually maintenance free. I start my Asters directly in the garden from seeds I collected the previous season. I always have more than I need and it is necessary to thin them out in order to get tall beautiful blooms. The asters I grow are annuals but I understand there are also perennial versions.
You can enjoy the beauty of asters while encouraging butterflies and bees to visit your garden. These flowers also make great cut flowers for an indoor center piece.
