Are You Too Old to be Successful?

I once heard the rapper Snoop Dogg say: “Old people inspire me to want to grow old.”  (Perhaps that’s not an exact quote but that was the gist of it.)

I agree with Mr. Broadus. The rapper’s real name is Calvin Cordozar Broadus, Jr.

I also agree with Albert-László Barabási.  He’s not a rapper.  He’s a network scientist.  You’ve heard of the “X-Factor”. Right? Well, this gentleman wrote an article, “What can we learn from people who succeed later in life?”, which promotes his book “The Formula: The Universal Laws of Success”, and he says people who succeed in their later years have something called a “Q-Factor”.

A Q-Factor?  Yes.  Barabási has come up with an equation to calculate a person’s Q-factor and determined that if your Q-factor is low, then you are probably pursuing or you did pursue the wrong vocation.  He mentioned some people he says had a high Q-factor.  William Shakespeare, Albert Einstein, and Thomas Edison, just to name a few.

Not sure I am in 100% agreement with Mr. Barabási.  But I can point to certain people who started a successful career after they reached 50+.  Much like Snoop Dogg, they inspire me to grow old.  I say:  “If they can do it, I can too.”  If my Q-factor is low, then it’s up to me to figure out how to raise it.

Fun Fact:

For your information, if you’re curious.  The meaning of the given name Cordozar represents innovation, independence, determination, courage, sincerity, and activity.”  (Source) Mr. Broadus should have used that as his stage name instead of Snoop Dogg. Don’t you think so?
