Do you typically purchase only name brand products? The name sells it to you or do you find name brand products are just better than off brand or generic products?
To me, it depends on the product. For instance, I’ve always bought name brand potato chips until recently. One day as I was shopping at Walmart, they did not have Lays regular potato chips. They were sold out completely. So I picked up a bag of Great Value regular potato chips. We opened them when I got home and were pleasantly surprised. The chips, while not as good as Lays, were pretty good. The bag only cost me $1.12 vs. $2.99. Win. I have since bought the $1.00 bag of Fritos. They are exactly the same as the name brand. They have the skinny ones and the big and fat dip chips. My next purchase was the Great Value Crunch Cheetos. They are my favorite. And this bag only costs $.82 at the store I shop at.
I will admit that some things are better when you purchase name brand. Then others, are just as good or better and costs much less. This led me to the following poll to quiz you guys on your shopping habits.

It depends on the product. I will try anything once to see if it is just as good. But, Tide now I would never buy anything else.
I agree. Trying the generic is the make or break. I have found some good ones that I buy on a regular basis.
It depends on the product indeed.
I agree, but if the quality is the same or you can’t tell the difference, you may as well save a little money and buy the generic one.
That’s true,I generally don’t care about brands anyway, so I go with an open mind.
I do too. It only makes sense.
In some cases there is no difference between name brands and generic. The difference is mainly the label. I visited a salmon packing factory once and we were told that it didn’t matter how expensive a brand you bought it was the same salmon. They packed for generic and and brand names and put on different labels.
I think that is the case for the majority of products sold as Generic. So you may as well keep your money in your pocket instead of giving it to them!
I mostly buy generic brands over brand ones.
I buy a fair amount of generic products here. I think the main one is paper towels.
I like both, it all depends on the product.
It’s the same here, Carol. Some are much better than others and then some are not worth what you pay for!
I am for brands and those brands that have a good name and at the same time I will go for brands that I am satisfied with
I weigh the quality of the product first. If it is good and a savings I will buy the generic brand. I have found that some are good, even great and then others are not. It also depends on what you are using the product for in the way of cleaning products or paper products.
i suspect I am 50/50. I like some of the generic brands a lot. Store brands are often good as well. But I also know, sometimes I just want captain crunch!
I agree! I’m set in my ways on certain items. Other things I wouldn’t want to trade for anything.
for me it is always a quality choice – quality over!
All of these brands are unknown to us
Where are you from? The brands mentioned are all sold in the U.S.
I am from Europe … a small country of Slovenia …. ex Yugoslavia
Nice to meet you, lado! I had a friend I met through work that lives in Czechoslovakia. I haven’t heard from her in a few years.
How is the new government working out there?
It was nice to meet you too, dear Karen … I’m glad…..I don’t know how the Czech Government works …. I hardly know about ours yet because I am not interested in politics
