Another Technology poll…

Like my poll of yesterday, I am gathering information for future technology blog topics and there are no right answers. I do, however, as a smart aleck have to say there are some answers that are intentionally funny rather than useful!

  • Question of

I am trying to install a USB device on my computer and it fails. What should I do?

    • Throw computer out the window and buy a new one.
    • Look for the easy button.
    • Remove the USB device, install the drivers again and then plug the USB device into a new USB slot.
  • Question of

USB 3.0 slots on your computer have blue plastic in them. Why?

    • Blue carries information faster than the old white platic plugs.
    • Everyone loves blue.
    • Actually it is just so you can tell the difference on a computer that has both USB 2 and USB 3 plugs.
  • Question of

My home network is slow what is the best way to fix it?

    • Break your home wifi into diggerent segments. Have an IoT device network and a network for power users.
    • Move to a new house the one you are in has a wifi ghost.
    • Run a copper cable around the outside of your house to increase reception!
  • Question of

Raspberry shake is a product that…

    • Mixes raspberries and ice cream together.
    • Offers you a reasonably priced home or school seismograph.
    • Is impossible, you can’t share raspberries.
  • Question of

The longer the ethernet cable the more data it can move.

    • The speed of light is only a guideline not a hard and fast rule.
    • Long cables have more data storage capacity.
    • I want a longer cable.
    • In fact, the application of the speed of light with network cables sadly means longer cables do not hold more, move more or increase overall network capacity.
  • Question of

I never use shutdown with my computer I just turn it off.

    • Sure why not, what could go wrong?
    • Shutting down the computer via the task bar allows the system to close files and protect your computer.
    • What is a computer?
  • Question of

The power at my house is unreliable should I buy a UPS (uninterruptable power supply)?

    • What is cheaper a UPS or a new computer?
    • I like gambling!
    • Still not sure what a computer is…
  • Question of

I like the smart aleck answers in these quizes more than the real ones!

    • Yes
    • No

    • I would say Cat6 would be a better option if you are hardwiring your home network. I would however wonder how you increase security with wire? I know professionals that can hack a wired implementation just as quickly as they can a Wifi network.

      • Wireless networks are inherently insecure, broadcasting packets as far as their signal will carry. Anyone in range can sniff those packets… To do that on a wired network, you have to physically inject yourself into the stream. It isn’t all that hard but most folks are too lazy to do so
