From a young age, we have known that nettles are an extremely useful form of the plant, which greatly contributes to better health and well-being. Older people most often mention it in connection with rheumatism. Its usefulness knows no boundaries. This type of plant is generally considered to contain a large amount of vitamin C, a lot of calcium, iron, and it also contains minerals that are hardly found elsewhere. Modern science has discovered that nettles also contain the pigment quercetin. This flavonoid is a powerful antioxidant and antihistamine that reduces severe inflammation. The plants are harvested in May and June before flowering. The leaves are used fresh or dried for tea. The roots can be used fresh or dried and ground.

I don’t recognise it until I am stung by it but sounds like a useful plant. We don’t have many nettles
I use it for tea. But my mom cooked nettle spinach.
Some plants really do not want to be eaten by animals that eat grasses, and plant fodder.
I wonder if any study has been made about how these types of plants actually might be the most beneficial to us anyway.
Why do some plants have such elaborate protective systems, like stinging nettles, and roses with thorns, etc, cactus’s too, with spikes?
In the world of variety, I guess that every sort of different variation is tried at times, and if this new variety brings benefit, outweighing disadvantages to the plant, it usually keeps them.
This is mere adaptation, or evolutionary directional growth of species, I suppose.
yet. Thank you so much for sharing your explanation.
I’ve been stung by this plant too many times.
Me too, though I am very careful in picking this plant. ?
Very useful plant, but I have never liked the taste.
I agree, Ellie. The taste is real not pleasant.
Apparently the properties of this plant are well known in many parts of the world.
You are right. I suppose almost everyone knows her. It is a widespread plant.
i haven’t tried the tea yet, but we did buy some. I will make a cup today!
I really like nettle tea. I pick nettles myself.
the tea was very good, I enjoyed it while engrossed in a wonderful conference call yesterday!
We used to eat nettles instead of spinach, dear Vidocka
Yes, you are right. I tried that too.
And how do you feel? To me, it’s even better than real spinach
To me, the real spinach is better
It’s a matter of taste, dear Vidocka
Nice informative post. Thanks for sharing
Thank you so much for your kind comment
Nettles are also useful for gardeners I have read. The nettle tea is great for giving plants a quick spurt of vitamins
I totally agree. I also use them as a spray in my garden.
Interesting information about the nettle plant.
Thank you. I hope you will ever need this information ?
I think it is available here too and I found the local name for the same. But it is used more as an alternate medicine but not as a tea here.
Our official medicine is not so “advanced” as to use herbs as medicine.
I don’t know about this plant , I hope you will help knowing it
I use it most for tea.
I know it well and keep my distance. I remember Dustin had to go to the hospital once while coming in contact with it.
I agree. We can be severely burned with nettles. I’m very careful about picking nettles.
There are so many wild plants growing here. I must check to see if this plant is there among them.
Take a look. In our country, it is a very common plant. It is found in the home garden, forest, meadow, etc.
