It’s hard not to love alpacas. I’m fortunate enough to have seen them up close and personal when they were almost neighbors. When I still lived in Templeton, I used to pass an alpaca farm at least once a week when I was out doing errands. I couldn’t resist parking next to the farm and walking to the front fence of the farm when I saw the alpacas were close to it. When they saw me, they would approach.
Of course I couldn’t resist photographing them. They begged for attention and their expressive faces often made me laugh. When I saw that Kim’s August Just for Fun Challenge was Flora and Fauna, I decided to join the fun with these two. I find them adorable and funny. I have only seen them in a zoo, but I’d love to have the chance to pet or play with one for a while.

They are really cute, but it is a lot of work to take care of that kind of animal, although they are said to be easy going in temperament. I suppose anyone who has alpacas would want to learn to spin yarn.
One of the alpaca farmers had a booth at farmers market and she sells their wool and things like hats and scarves knitted with their wool. It’s so soft!

The blog is 10 years old and has a lot of broken links. I really need to set aside some time to clean it up! I was active on the gardening one (link at top of page) for a while, but haven’t kept it up. I started a glossary with links to pages on all of the different plants I have grown or would like to. Someday!

I really miss them since they moved. I’ve also moved farther from where they used to be. I’m hoping to locate the other alpaca farm in the area when I have time to visit it.
I had a friend that had two of them. I would love to do some hiking with one. Way better than a donkey!
LOL! I’ve never hiked with any animal, let alone a donkey. I guess it would be handy if you had something to carry. Does your friend sell the wool?
For thru hikes it would be great to have a pack animal. I would like to take the dogs too, but they would have to carry their own water, and I think I would end up carrying most of it. Then I saw a video where this mom took the alpaca. Most of the trails across the country are no hoofed animals, but an alpaca has cloven hooves, they are okay.
I never knew that. I’ve never had an animal to take with me.

For sure they always made me smile. I follow the blog of an alpaca farmer that describes some of their antics.
Nice! Llamas and Alpaca’s are all over Maryland now. People raise them for “wool” and for meat.
I think around here they raise them mostly for wool. I don’t think I could make myself eat alpaca meat, no matter how tasty it might be.

I did see some in a local zoo, but they looked much different than these — not as happy looking.

I really do not know how many of them are currently .. usually 2-3 pairs ..It’s nice to see animals coming from afar ..but I would ban all these zoos gardens … the animals are not for the cage.
