The months of July and August is colored with dahlias, but the season could extend up to September or October. These tuberous plants love the chilly rainy weather here.
Dahlias are easy to propagate, they can be propagated from the tubers or from cuttings. I prefer the cutting method. Sometimes in the rain the tubers could rot and it takes a long time for plants growing from tubers to bloom.
Once they die down they come back on their own in the next season. You really don’t have to do too much. Just feed them well with good NPK before they start to set buds and the huge blooms will blow your mind away with color and beauty you for a few months to come. A bi monthly feed helps the plant during the flowering season.

Thank you Pamela Moresby, I am so glad you like them.
Dahlias are beautiful flowers … I planted them this year only they are not blooming yet … a little missing
Maybe it blooms later for you, actually our peak blooming season is August.
Great picture!
I have some Dahlia pictures from the National Heirloom Expo – they had a contest for the best ones. They are amazing and quite varied.
Hmm.. would have been a lovely show to attend.
There is a very brief picture in this video at 3:32 minutes. Go to 3:30 and be ready to stop the video. These are the ones from last year that I took pictures of. https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=221&v=AO2KvswW9Bs
They are stunning but i have never grown them before.
They are very easy to grow and care for too. Try them Carol you might love them.
That indeed is a bumper crop of dahlias. You must be having a beautiful garden.
Yes, indeed this year they are a bit smaller but blooming abundantly.
I am happy for you Dawn. Thanks for sharing a bit of your garden here.
Dahlias are such beautiful flowers. For some reason mine bloom once in early July and then just die. I need to care for them more carefully.
tzwrites do you fertilize the plant before the buds come? The plant needs more energy to bloom.
Great job! 2019 is the Year of Dahlias and the flower always reminds me of Daisy!
Thanks Suny. I didn’t know that 2019 was the year of the dahlias. But which calendar is this?
