A brief History of Virily – and rebuilding the FAQ's

A brief history of Virily – or how we got where we are! One of the things brought up about a month ago now was the 20 character limit for comments. Since the FAQ’s for the site is out of date, I thought I would pull some together. Somethings we don’t know for sure. One of them we do know for sure is the rule that comments must contain 20 characters.

1. There were a large group of people that commented Nice! Or Good! That forced the admins to change the site rules. You see, there are Virils chasers who comment on lots of posts, but were robbing Authors of useful comments.

2. There was a huge copy and paste problem that we still see some people doing from time to time. Literally, people that copied the same comment and pasted it on 10, 20 or even 30 posts.

a. Comments should always be unique.

b. Comments have to be 20 characters or more.

So, why copy-paste or using the same comment over and over aren’t supported because at the beginning of Virily, it was abused. The same is true of the sad reality that forced the comment limit.

FAQ 1: why can’t I copy-paste comments – one it’s rude. Two it is expressly forbidden by the Virily site.

FAQ 2: Why is there a 20 character limit on comments. The rule exists people didn’t treat authors posts with value. Good. Nice. Cool. Don’t do anyone any good.I do agree that we should, and we did ask the admin team to move the rule to 10 characters or more from 20.I understand many readers and authors here on Virily are not native English speakers, and the English rule for the site on posts and comments is hard. I find value in every comment. I don’t care if you make a spelling mistake in the comment or your post. Those don’t matter to me. I know you can’t edit your posts or your comments, and I know I’ve made a few spelling errors over the last three years.

Positive Note: Niume paid writers for 17 months.

Many of the pay writing sites are gone now.

Virily is still paying 38 months in (I think it is more than 38 months of payments)!

  1. Personally I have no problem with the comments having to contain 20 characters. I always can think of something positive to say other than “Cool”…although I do use that word. lol

    • I remember back in the beginning of Virily, there was two or three users who used to do that. They started moving really fast (you get Virils for comments) by comments on 200 or more posts per day.

      It was frustrating, at best.

  2. I try to be unique, but sometimes the same comment seems to fit. I do not copy and paste, I speak from the heart like now. I support your efforts. I agree with you!

  4. Personally, I don’t even mind because a comment should contain 20 letters … but it could be better if only 10 were enough … I don’t know …. I like to comment but I have to admit that only certain people

  5. I am okay with the 20 character comments. I haven’t seen people using the same comments over and over again. Maybe because they don’t comment on my posts.
I only want them to review and publish posts faster, on weekends too, that’s when I get time to interact.
They need to be transparent with the dashboard.
And yes the badges don’t work or should I say work erratically.

    • Badges have seemed to not work for me for more than 3 years. BUt I do see people with new badges. Who knows!

Your very lucky that the comment copiers haven’t hit your posts. Watch some of your posts and see if people do, just not every single post!

Dashboard has been asked (it was in the email i sent to the admins)

  6. I always try to write good or useful or amusing comments as much as possible… as for the FAQs, Carol and Lacho and Howard are right on the mark and if these suggestions are accepted and implemented by Virily administrators it would simply be extraordinary…

    • I have no response from the admins, other than asking for user names from the SPAM issues of last weekend.

I did submit all the community asks tot hem. We shall see!

    • That was a topic I was thinking about diving into. The initial system of cheating was short comments.

then the short comment with punctuation marks. The performance issues and the cheating issue (drafts) came next.

  7. I think after the first comment a word or two should be fine with the rest. As far as adding to FAQ may be a question on the updating of the dashboard may be included.

Off the topic, what I have observed here is users are rushing with upvotes with no interaction most of the time.

    • I will add the dashboard. We know until last month what the rules were. July 2019 was the first time they paid before the end of the month.

The comment issue is one that bugs we. We had no limits at all until people abused that. They continued to abuse it with Nice>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> or wonderful,,,,,,,,,,,,

as comments. It is really frustrating. The upvoting without commenting, has been on Vriliy since the first days of the site.

  8. I don’t like to say more than what I mean to say….I think a lot of people make a lot of noise over nothing.
I often use full stops and commas…No I don’t want to repeat myself over and over again either… Thanks for mentioning this..

  9. I use a translator though to make “weird” comments from time to time. I fix them as much as possible. The length of the comment depends on “my day”. Occasionally the day really comes when my head is not working well. However, I noticed that I did not receive any new badges. I’ve been doing surveys for a while (I don’t have any badges yet). I don’t know how badges are added (automatic?). I know it’s not very important, but I’m interested.

  10. I’m a person who uses a translator. I know there is not a very good translation of my comments. That can’t stop me from commenting. I keep the 10 character version. Because there are times when I don’t have time to make a long comment. But even I want 10 characters to be associated with the post being commented on.

  11. A message letting us know when the site will be down for updates. If nothing else, like I have seen Virily do before, a message at the top of the main page. Instead of trying to log in, only to find out through others that, oh, the site must be doing this, or it must be doing that. We should not have to assume. A simple gesture would be nice to let us know an update is being done. Or if the site is having problems, for example.

  12. In the interim while we have no support perhaps an “auto reply” could be set up that covered some changes. A meaningless auto reply is somehow better than being totally ignored. Apparently the payment structure has changed but I don’t know when. (I don’t want to discuss this here – just saying)
