The white stork was classified as a “species under minor concern” by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature. It benefited during the Middle Ages from certain human activities, such as the cutting and clearing of forest areas, but changes in agricultural methods and industrialization made its population decline and even caused its disappearance in some regions of Europe during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries .
