Other animals will also do this, but more than likely this is a coyote, there are many here.

Never would I have imagine that they did this. We have coyotes around Chicagoland. I will be on the lookout for these markings when I’am training in the spring & summer months on the trails.
Always pay attention to the signs Thomas. I know you notice paw prints, but hardly anyone touches on the scratch marks. This could of also been a bobcat, mountain lion, or coyote. Too big for a fox, they will also mark or scratch this way. If you plan on doing the SF one, they have more bear than we do as well. Mostly blacks, which can be intimidated.
Good to know. I will definitely do more research. I will be going to Texas this weekend and put together somethings I got from locals. I’m slightly on a Virily hiatus from sharing, but don’t want to get too far behind being that I want to share everything about this trip to Texas, so I may slip a writing out either tomorrow or this weekend pertaining to Texas. Expect pictures at some point about the food too and sites : )
Wow, I am afraid of those coyotes. Dangerous.
I do have to make sure Penny stays close. She would be a tasty snack.
