White House at Appomattox Court House

We drove down through Virginia and to the very famous Appomattox Court House where the Civil War was concluded and a treaty signed.  I had always thought the Civil War had ended at the “courthouse” at Appomattox, but silly me, the TOWN was called Appomattox Court House and the papers were signed in a private house.  As you approach this town out on a grassy hill in Virginia you pass by this abandoned house (as they all are now).  The history that occured here left the air with a spooky feeling.  It is now maintained by the government as a National Historic Park.
