In Auckland there are 2 crews for Whales & Dolphin tour trips. The 360 degrees and Dreamweaver cruises.
Each cruise takes about 4 hours, and the cruises leave the ports of Auckland with passengers to seek Whales & Dolphins. If no whales and dolphins are found then the people who pay for the trip get a free trip to go on another cruise.
I highly recommend these cruises, having been on 3 of them. The 1st cruise I took was a 360 degrees tour and not one whale or dolphin was to be found. Then on the horizon we saw the reason why. An orca whale and her calf in the distance. Orcas kill whales and dolphins, which is why they are called killer whales.
On the 2nd cruise of 360 degrees we saw dolphins and evidence of whales.
I since then took a Dreamweaver cruise. It was very good. We saw Dolphins.
I read these posts out of order. I loved them both, it was like going with you. Thank you for letting me tag along : )

We used to go Whale watching around the San Juan Islands (near Seattle Washington). I cannot tell you how amazing it was. Until, a whale came up to the surface about eight feet from my friends boat. His boat was around 27 feet. The whale was longer than that!
Thanks Doc, it is amazing, Im still waiting to go again and see a whale close up.
I was waiting for the whales and dolphins! No matter – some great shots of islands and seabirds instead!
There will be other shots of dolphins, I just put in a series with dolphin pictures, Im sorry couldn’t find a whale.
