Wander project the Petronas Towers…

Ah, Malaysia, simply Asia. I remember the travel slogan from years ago. I got a call for a project in Kuala Lumpur. At first, I tried to get out of being part of the team. It was a long trip, and they needed me for three weeks the first time. I ended up making three different trips to KL, and lots and lots of early morning teleconference call as part of the project. But overall, I am glad I went. The office of the customer and the company I was working for were both in the Petronas Towers. The KLCC mall sits below the towers. The Petronas Towers were, for a time the tallest buildings in the world, They are no longer, replaced by a tour in Dubai, but they were for a time.

They are stainless steel as well. The bridge between the two towers is interesting to cross. Our customer lab was actually on the 84th floor, so we walked across the bridge many times. You don’t realize how high in the air you are until you look down. Riding up in the elevator that never bothered me, it never bothered me to standing on the floor of the building in the tower, looking out the window. It bothered me a bit at times when the window washers were there. I was terrified of watching them. That, window washing a skyscraper is not a job I would ever consider. I would be panicking the entire time I was dangling from the side of the building. Hard to remember my job was to clean the windows.

The time that freaked me out, the only time in fact that I was nervous was sitting in a stainless steel building, during a thunderstorm. The thought of lightning striking a steel building made me nervous particularly when you consider that the Petronas towers, named for the Petronas Oil company of Malaysia, tower above every other building in KL. I have to be honest and say, sitting on the 46th floor of a steel tower in a thunderstorm made me stop and wonder. Nothing happened, but it made me nervous. These pictures came from my 2nd trip to KL The first trip was two and a ½ weeks, starting in Singapore and eventually moving to KL. The second trip was straight to KL.
