Wander project the Museums of Washington DC (short list)!

My heart first beat in Chicago. A piece of me has never left the city with Big Shoulders. From Navy Pier to Shedd Aquarium and the Museum of Science and Industry, a bit of me is there. But I do also want to mention that where I live now is also a delightful city full of museums. There are so many that I can only list anew of them, but I highly recommend all of them.

  1. The National zoo
  2. Smithsiaona Natural History
  3. The Washington Monument
  4. The Vietnam Monument
  5. The WWII monument
  6. The MLK monument
  7. The Smithsonian Air and Space Museum

I will stop there; the list is exceptionally long. I remember when we agonized over should we move to DC. My wife and I talked for hours. We finally decided that the opportunity was too good for the kids and us, so we moved. We swore that first summer that we would go to the museums every month during the summer. We did for one summer. After that, we fell into the reality of residents. Residents don’t go sightseeing as much. We worry about traffic and parking (don’t get there you will never find a parking space!) Residents worry about parking, tourists worry about lines to museums. The second one is a right now problem, the first delays you are going!

Anyway, there are many museums in the city of Washington, DC. There are many as well in the nearby town of Baltimore, Maryland, and Annapolis, Maryland. Plus, there are many historical sites where important things happened over the last 240 or so years. Thanks for wandering with me today! The pictures are all of Holland from my first trip there!

  1. I did not see pictures at first. Now, I see them. I loved visiting the Smithsonian in Washington D.C.I loved looking at Archie Bunker’s chair and a glass slipper. You really do have great museums where you are now. Did you live in Chicago and when? I liked Chicago. I visited there and one time I flew out of O’Hare I think it was to go to Israel come back for a short visit. I am from Minneapolis. So, if you lived in Chicago when were you there because if you were there when I was then we were neighbors by an 8 hour car ride.

    • It is in honor of my father. When he passed away he left me more than 40,000 pictures and slides. We converted all of them to digital. In that process, i realized that there were so many stories that my dad never shared and so many pictures he never shared.

      So, the wander project!

      • Ok, thanks for the background hands-up on that. That’s a lot of pictures and slides.

My Uncle was a transport enthusiast, and he left nearly as many as that too of trams, and trains, from around the world, many were in black and white.

We donated them all to the tramways preservation society here, when he died.

  1. I would love to visit several of those on your list! You are right, parking is the worst there! My husband was lucky when he visited by having a unit on demand for transport. He was there on a National Recognition Day for Fallen Law Enforcement and a ceremony several years ago. Of course, he didn’t have time to do anything fun.
