Wander project (my happy list) and childhood memories!

I am combining a happy list with my wander project today!

One of the things that I loved about going to my Grandparent’ house was the lake. The pictures are of two different days (in one the lake is not frozen), but in both, it is all about sledding.

My winter happy list

  • I love sledding!
  • I love walking in the snow!
  • I love walking on water (well Ice)!

My grandfather had three sleds that we used. One was a plastic boat. The other two were wooden. One was a Toboggan that 3 or 4 people could ride on. The other was a Red Ryder sled. That sled was the best because not only did it go fast, it also allowed you to steer. When we went down the big hill, there were no trees, and it was a straight shot to the lake. When the lake was frozen back in the day, people drove cars across the lake.  During the middle of the winter, the ice would be 12 or 14 inches thick. My grandparents how was on top of a hill that sloped to the shore of Lake Ripley. The lake was good sized but not huge. As a kid, we would swim from one side of the lake to the other side.

Grandpa used to row the road boat as I did that. I am making sure that any speedboats would see the rowboat and the swimmer!

Lake Ripley, around the holidays, was one of my all-time favorite places to go!

In the summer, I would run to grab a fishing pole and be out fishing. In the winter, grab a sled and hit the hill!

Childhood memories that always make me smile1
