Wander project chasing Easter Eggs!

Easter is a religious celebration; it has significance in the Christian world. But it is also the celebration of spring, the rebirth of the world, the appearance of flowers and leaves and green. This year, we will most likely have more muted celebrations than have been had in years of old and in part of us, muted because the kids are now older and we won’t hide candy. The pictures shared today are of an Easter celebration from 2006. The kids would come downstairs to the main level of the house. The kid’s rooms were on the top floor of the house, with the kitchen, master bedroom, and living room on the main level of the house. The kids would wait on the stairs.

There is no picture of the kids on the stairs. We only did that for Christmas day. The kids would come downstairs. Now, at that time, Fran was living with us. She had joined the family in 2001, Gwen had joined the family a few years before that. That meant that the Easter Bunny had to hide things high enough that neither Fran nor Gwen could get to the candy. The other rule we had was we didn’t do the shoe thing. When I was little, we used to leave our shoes outside the bedroom, and the Bunny put candy in the shoes. We didn’t do that with Fran and Gwen in the house; they were good at finding candy or hard-boiled eggs, really good as in the egg or candy was never seen again.

So the candy was hidden in a specific range – above 3 feet (no dog snatching) and below 5 feet (maximum reach of small arms). When the kids were little, we had to be careful. Many times we had eggs that were hard-boiled and colored by the kids. But, we missed one of the hard-boiled eggs in the house one year. The smell was terrible when we found that egg a month later. So the first rule was to find the 12 eggs that were hidden by the Bunny. Quickly explained that the Easter Bunny, unlike Santa Claus (how does he make all those toys, elves, how does he deliver toys all around the world, Christmas magic) that Bunny was a solo operation and needed help with the eggs. He, the Bunny, could carry candy, but hard-boiled eggs cracked!

Nothing like memories of Easter. As I said, this year, we won’t be hiding candy. But we will still have a family dinner!

    • the kids love it, as a parent, i always regretted being sneaky. We had to make a rule that the hard-boiled eggs were found first!

we found one when the kids were really little a month after Easter. Not, by seeing it, but by smelling it!!!!
