Wander project Bloomington Indiana

A family event from a few years ago, the 40th anniversary of my Uncle and Aunt, my mother’s brother. It was in the backyard of my parent’s house in Indiana. One of those family moments that you capture and reflect on for years. Mom and dad held many family, friends and other events over the years. They hosted a wedding for two Thai Students in our house in Sycamore knolls. They hosted my wife and my wedding out on the farm.

Over the years we wandered to mom and dads for so many events. They were always punctuated by dad either grilling a crown roast, or grilling brats. Dad always knew how to grill things perfectly. He was our grill master. They also always had a cooler on the back deck that was filled with various drinks over the years. I say various drinks over the years because that changed as the kids aged. At one point the cooler was 90% colored sugar water drinks.

Over time it moved to diet pop and water.

I think my favorite part of the event every time was sitting and relaxing with my dad when the cooking was done. Dad and I had a long path to comfort. I won’t say ours was worse than other people’s it is a typical transition for kids growing up. But later, when Dad was retired, and things were different, he and I reconnected at a new level. That reconnection means the world to me now. I am proud of the person my father was his entire life. I do miss his brats!
