wander project another Tech Oops

I sometimes look back at things that have happened and think about different ways to deal with situations. I do also review situations and oddly remember odd situations and things that were said years later.

One afternoon my mother offered to take my baby sister and me to the Dairy Queen. Back then the sole goal when going to the ice cream place was to get my youngest sister to get anything other than a cone. She had an issue eating Ice Cream fast enough, and when she got a cone the ice cream was everywhere.

As we got in the car, my mother looked at my little sister and nicely said: “would you like an Ice Cream Sundae?”

My sister paused and said, “No, I want one today.” That one stuck!

There were also some odd and different things my father used to say. He would lock a gate, or a door and say, “keeping honest people honest.” In my entire life, I have never thought the only thing that kept honest people from robbing my house, was the locked door!

The second one was a childhood derailer I am sure. My dad often went to the office on Saturday mornings. Back in the early days, my mom worked almost every Saturday. So we were on our own at the hours Saturdays. I would prepare lunch (normally burgers and mac’n’cheese). Then dad would get home, and we would all sit down to lunch.

After lunch, the local channel always aired wrestling. It happened one Saturday that there was a National Geographic special that I wanted to watch. I tried to play we would learn something from the NG Special. My dad smiled and said “wrestling is educational TV” last time we argued and last time we asked to watch something else!

  1. Wonderful photos. Just like when your sister was little I also made ice cream seem to stretch everywhere, I was growing up during the time of Good Humor trucks and I was not allowed to get anything on a stick, I had to have my ice cream in those ice cream cups with wooden spoons, How I longed for a nice slurpy chocolate-covered ice cream on a stick but mom knew I would have it all over me,

  2. You clearly have the mind of an engineer! My wife’s father was a civil engineer who spent much of his working life in the Port of Liverpool, working on things like the massive marine lock gates. My wife has inherited something of his can-do attitude, which has got us out of various technical scrapes down the years!
