Vrnjacka Banja (Serbia)

Vrnjacka Banja is the largest spa in Serbia. It is located 200 km south of Belgrade. Nearby is the mountain Goch and the river West Morava.

There are 7 mineral springs in the spa. For therapies, 4 are used, and water from the remaining 3 sources is bottled for drinking. These are natural mineral waters. They are applied in the treatment: diabetes, condition after jaundice, chronic inflammation of the intestine and stomach, gallbladder disease, stomach ulcer and duodenal ulcer, kidney disease, urinary bladder and urinary tract and other diseases.

Mineral waters of Vrnjacka Banja are used for balneotherapeutic purposes – such as medicinal water. Treatment is done by spraying mineral water,, bathing in hot water, inhalation, spraying and rinsing of organs and wounds, etc. With the help of spa water, numerous classical and modern methods of therapeutic procedures are carried out hygienic-nutrition, with adequate nutrition for every type of illness, medication, physiotherapy, massage, kinesitherapy, balneotherapy, electrotherapy, paraffin therapy, work therapy.

On this mineral source, the Romans built a medical and sanitary facility of AKUAE ORCINAE from the 2nd to the 4th century.

The first chemical analysis of thermomineral waters was performed by Baron Herder in 1835. On the basis of these data, an analysis was carried out in 1856 by Emery Lindmayer.
