Trip to Piha Beach

The day we went to Piha Beach was forecast to rain, but we packed a lunch and a thermos and went. It takes half an hour to get there.

Here are a series of photos I took and hopefully you can see them and I would like to hear what you think of them.

It was either sunny or cloudy and there was no rain that day.

#1 North end of Piha Beach

Not often shown but a legitimate part of the beach. At the most northern end it has no lifeguards and they recommend you don't swim there.

#2 View of Camel Rock Southern side

Around the more southern side, you can walk 20 mins to "The Gap" but you can only do it when the tide is out. The tide was in today.

#3 View of Camel Rock from a small stream

I saw this interesting stream and took a photo of it. Always something new when ever I visit.

#4 View of Piha beach from the road

Just before you get to the beach you drive down a very windy road with sheer drops in some places. I stopped to take a photo of the view here.

A long time ago, it was a gravel road and there was a huge rock over hanging the road. Now it is a modern road tar sealed and that over hanging rock is removed. They put some dynamite on it and it's now gone.

A closer look at the detail of Lion Rock at Piha. Lion Rock is a bit of an icon and gets put on every postcard, etc...

I could see some people would have a bach here and have that on their wall, which shows the level of imagination they have.

It is off course a standard land mark.

#6 This is a surfer on a more southern side.

There were 2 main surfers I saw and they took their time picking a wave to ride.

#7 Looking south from the north head.

You need to climb a tall sand dune to get this view. A lot of people come but not quite as many as the other side. Some take their dogs for a walk here.

#8 Abstract view of Lion Rock from a certain angle of the beach

I am looking towards the north and have the north head of Piha in the distance. It makes a more abstracted photograph. How many of the conventional people will have that on their wall?

#9 Overhanging NZ foliage and branches on a small road leading to the beach

This is an area where the road ways are most attractive.

#10 Real Estate on the south side of Piha Beach

Some one has lots of money? Or does the bank own them?

I liked the image #10 about the homes in the south side of the beach. I really enjoyed this beach.
