Travel Guide: Palace of the Grand Master of the Knights of Rhodes

Greece keeps an ancient history, which manifests itself in every monument and structure – many of them are on the island of Rhodes. Unrivaled monuments and architecture, museums, where ancient exhibits are stored, streets paved with Roman plates, ancient aqueducts and much more, confirm that these places were home to several great civilizations.

One of the monuments that have survived to our time, is the Palace of the Grand Masters, another name – Castello. Finding the castle is not difficult, it is located on the street of the Knights in the Old City, the street is also known as Odos Ippoton. The street itself is also interesting with its history, numerous buildings of different ages, and it is also noted as one of the best-preserved streets from the Middle Ages and the knight’s Rhodes.

In the palace, there are 205 rooms, the most interesting of the rooms: the Hall of Byzantine Icons, the Reception Hall, the Hall of the Italian Governor and the Hall of Music, dances, waiting room. Impressive is the design of rooms, their finishing: marble, gilded details on the walls, murals. Among the decorations will be interesting carpets, Greek statues, amphoras, and vases. Particular attention should be paid to the patio with a mosaic floor and eight statues made during the Hellenic era.
