Travel guide: Monolithos Fortress in Rhodes island

The western part of the Rhodes island is striking with its greenery, beautiful mountains, the absence of cities, hotels, and people! Take a car rental and get on the road safely! The roads are excellent, there are few cars only on the road, everywhere are signs for descents to the beaches and fortresses.

The road leading to the fortress is the mountain serpentine. In front of the staircase, you will find parking for your car. There also is a small cafe where you can have some snacks and drink coffee at very democratic prices. There is a toilet. It will take a long time to climb the stairs, the steps are steep and tall. But rising to the top you will not regret that came there. The view that opens from the hilltop is worth your efforts coming there. Sea view, where the islands can be seen in the haze.

The castle stays on the high hill, and it’s a beautiful place to watch the sunset! The view from there is awesome! You will not often see such a sunset! Fortress is romantic ruins with beautiful views of the sea and the islands!

At the very top, there is a churchyard, you can put candles, leave notes, as in many churches in Rhodes. Everything is clean, well-kept.

  1. Gorgeous scenery and just what I would enjoy. Peace and quiet surrounded by old stones masonry and a beautiful, seemingly almost Greek looking church. Great photography skills…
