The Beautiful Waterfalls of Montana

Although people often think of beauty when they think of Montana, they usually don’t think of waterfalls. However, the truth is that there are many gorgeous waterfalls in the state that are well worth seeing, especially for people who love waterfalls.

There are over 120 waterfalls in Montana that have been given names and a lot more than don’t have a name. Personally, I think it would be fascinating to see and photograph all of them, but I’m only including a handful here, at least at this time.

Bird Woman Falls

This waterfall is in Glacier National Park and it has a total drop of 960 feet. The water is glacier fed and the flow is the lowest in the fall of the year.

Kootenai Falls

Kootenai Falls is located near the town of Libby, Montana, in the northwest corner of the state. While this waterfall doesn't cascade down spectacular heights, it is still a very pretty waterfall that is worth seeing. The area that surrounds it is also quite lovely.

Woodbine Falls

Woodbine Falls is found near the city or population center of Bozeman, Montana. It doesn't fall off a sheer cliff, but it does flow down steep, rocky terrain. The rugged beauty is undeniable, don't you think?

Elizabeth Falls

Located on Mission Creek in the Mission Mountains, Elizabeth Falls has a drop of about 1,000 feet and it is found in rugged terrain that is quite beautiful, at least to me.

Running Eagle Falls

Running Eagle Falls is another waterfall that is found in Glacier National Park. It is also where two streams come together. If you look closely at this picture, you will see that a second stream merges with the upper stream, about in the middle, to the right side.

Ousel Falls

Ousel Falls is located near Big Sky, Montana and it can be reached by a looping trail that is less than two miles long. I don't know about anyone else, but I like this sort of broad, cascading waterfalls.

Virginia Falls

Virginia Falls is yet another waterfall that is found in Glacier National Park. The scenery is outstanding and this is a very beautiful waterfall. Come to think about it, this sort of scene is yet another reason to visit Glacier National Park.

Glacial Cascade

Glacial Cascade is an aptly named waterfall in Glacier National Park, Montana. I suspect that it won't even be difficult for anyone to figure out where the water comes from. This waterfall is so beautiful that it would be worthwhile as a full-sized picture, hanging on a wall.

These are just eight of the waterfalls in Montana that have names. All of them are beautiful and worth a visit, just to see them. It isn't even surprising that so many of them are found in Glacier National Park.

    • I’ve never seen Niagra, either. Considering the number of falls in and around Glacier National Park, I can almost guarantee that there are many in Ontario as well.
