Whatipu is the beach next to the North head of the Manukau harbour.
It has black sand, people go surfing and it is hard to get to and you need reasonable fitness to walk to the beach.
Do not go swimming or surfing alone. Many have drowned here, it is very dangerous and there are rips.
Yet it is very popular and good for surfing if you are up to it and can handle it
