Spiral Stairs at Fort Pulaski Georgia

There were ramps and stairs that took soldiers from the main ground level to the upper second level of Fort Pulaski near Savannah, Georgia. Here we see a great stone stepped spiral steps leading from one level to the next. You can see that each step was a pie shaped piece of granite that was formed by hand way back in the early 1800’s. The tool marks are clearly visible on the bottom of each granite step.
