Shedd Aquarium

If you’re in the Chicago area, the Shedd Aquarium is a wonderful place to explore. The aquarium is comprised of 8 primary exhibits: Amazon Rising, Caribbean Reef, Polar Play Zone, Wild Reef, At Home on the Great Lakes,  Waters of the World, Abbot Oceanarium, and a special exhibit which currently focuses on Amphibians.

When we visited, I was especially impressed with the Abbot Oceanarium which is home to sea otters, sea lions, dolphins, and beluga whales. As you’ll see in the above video, the Beluga Whales were quite active the day we visited, and we got some close up views from the underwater viewing area.

The aquarium also had a large variety of jellyfish. Most aquariums have a couple of different varieties, but the Shedd Aquarium’s “Jellies” area had a really nice viewing area with several different species. While I don’t like them in the water where I’m swimming, they are mesmerizing to watch.

I also captured some nice views of Cinnamon Clownfish, Pink Skunk Clownfish, Mandarin Dragonet Fish, and others. Take a break from what you’re doing and take a relaxing trip under the waves.
